The Guide Right (TM)  Depth Gauge/Direction Indicator (2 mm in diameter) is insterted into the 2 mm osteotomy, and an X-Ray is taken to re-check the alignment of the osteotomy with the roots of adjacent teeth. If the alignment is satisfactory, proceed with the increasing drill sizes. If not, minor changes in the angulation should be made at this time.

The depth of the osteotomy can also be checked with the depth gauge and measured at this time. The depth is determined by examining the markings on the depth gauge visible in the X-Ray. The width of the top of the depth gauge - 4 mm - is usually desired for the minimal width of an abutment.
